On four walls it makes a calm, gallery-like backdrop that flatters warm wood floors, brass and every piece of art you hang on it. In the ceramic matte the warmth stays even from morning sun to lamplight, which makes it an easy whole-house white for living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and the kitchen.

Alabaster is One Hour Ceramic, Wise Owl's 100% acrylic matte wall paint, made with a self-crosslinking resin and 3M ceramic microspheres instead of the crushed mineral that flattens ordinary matte paint. Those hard, round microspheres are why fingerprints, soil and grease wipe off with mild soap and water without marring the finish, and why the wall stands up to scrubbing and burnishing. It self-levels to cut brush drag, primes itself on drywall, cured plaster and masonry, covers 350 to 400 square feet per gallon, and is extremely low in VOCs at 50 g/l. The color comes from the original 25-color palette Wise Owl launched One Hour Ceramic with in 2020 and no longer appears on Wise Owl's current color list, so buy enough to finish the room in Alabaster.

How to paint with Alabaster

Alabaster goes on best over a clean, dry, dull surface with no dust or loose paint; prime bare wood or metal with Wise Owl Stain Eliminating Primer first. Stir well, then brush, roll or spray, flowing the paint on generously and working from the unpainted area back into the wet edge; a 3/8 inch nap roller and a good synthetic brush give the smoothest wall. When spraying, add water sparingly, up to one pint per gallon at most. It is dry to the touch in about an hour and takes its next coat within four hours. Paint indoors only, when the surface is 50°F or warmer, and wash brushes and rollers in soapy water as soon as you finish.
